I just turned 32 last Thursday. Significant because I'm now old, but also because I celebrated without a phone call or visit from my Grandpa, who passed away recently and shared my birthday - March 21st. Even though we didn't get to see each other all that much I'd hear from him without fail yearly on our birthday. He'd always describe the beautiful weather in his new hometown of Ajijic, Mexico and tell me that I was the best birthday present he ever received. I had the opportunity to visit my grandpa a few times in Mexico before he got sick…

In honour of the big game this weekend I'm whipping up an extra large batch of my healthy breaded cauliflower bites. These cauliflower 'wings' are insanely delicious ✔️ paleo-friendly, gluten-free, dairy-free and completely guilt-free. Cauliflower is truly one of the world's most underrated health foods, perhaps because this vegetables bland colour makes us think of all the other white foods that we're often told to avoid: white bread, white rice, white sugar. Generally, people don't associate cauliflower with the same abundance of nutrients as its fellow cruciferous vegetables like kale and broccoli, however research shows that cauliflower is just as rich in phytonutrients…

You may have noticed Alison Roman's "the stew" recipe on instagram this week. Her delicious chickpea-based recipe has taken the internet by storm and is a wonderful addition to your weeknight dinner recipe lineup. This recipe is cheap and easy, and comes together in less than an hour from the following simple ingredients: 2 cans of coconut milk, 2 cans of chickpeas, garlic, onion, greens, stock and turmeric spice. While delicious (it has TWO cans of coconut milk - how can you go wrong here), I tweaked the recipe a few times until I came up with a variation that…

These are the tastiest crispy grain-free dumplings you'll ever make. I promise you won't even miss the gluten and trans fats. Enjoy my new favourite comforting meal from This Doctor's Kitchen:  In the past 5 years I've slowly made significant dietary decisions for the sake of my health. In order to finally resolve my skin, energy and digestion issues this doctor's kitchen is now entirely gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free and egg-free (90% of the time, we do have backyard hens after all, and their fresh tasty eggs aren't always easy to give up). When you know better, you do better, and after years…

One of my favourite things we ate in Portugal (aside from my daily salt cod fritter) was a huge bowl of the freshest clams I've ever tasted cooked with garlic, lemon, cilantro and vinho verde (aka Bulhão Pato clams). This is yet another recipe inspired by our visit to chef Esteve's flat in Lisbon. He created a very similar dish for us and we've been obsessed with recreating it at home as often as possible, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. This bowl of clams was not merely delicious, it was also life changing, since it made…

Anyone who knows me well knows that mussels and frites (the homemade, baked, sweet potato variety - obviously) are absolute staples in my diet. There's nothing better than tucking into a hot bowel of garlicky mussels accompanied by a glass of one of my favourite biodynamic wines. While I've always loved mussels, I've only recently come to learn that my favourite food also happens to be wonderful for the health of my skin. Mussels contain a hefty dose of beautifying vitamins and minerals, including B12 vitamins, vitamin C, amino acids, iron, potassium and selenium. They are also an excellent source of…

Nothing feels more "fall" to me than snuggling up on the couch with a glass of bold red wine and a huge bowl of hot chili. This sweet potato and beef chili recipe is my absolute favourite and is perfect for this fall weather and cozy evenings at home. It strikes that balance between spicy and sweet and happens to be super simple to make, too. Lately, I've been eating a 'ketogenic' style diet during the day and saving my carbohydrates for dinner time. This strategy allows me to maintain blood sugar balance through the day while maintaining normal cortisol patterns…
