It seems like most celebrities are on big pharma's latest injectable 'wonder drug'. Ozempic and other GLP-1 agonists are a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. They work by mimicking the action of the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1, which helps to reduce blood sugar & appetite, primarily by slowing down digestion and triggering insulin release from the pancreas. While this drug may work for many it's not without significant cost and a pretty lengthly side effect profile. It also seems to have around a 50/50 success rate from what I'm seeing clinically in my patients,…

Inflation has officially hit blueberries; they're charging $75 at my favourite fancy grocery in Huntsville! While our property is abundant with wild raspberries and strawberries we've yet to find the elusive Muskoka wild blueberry on our land so we're stuck purchasing ours, for now (pro tip: the health food store in Parry sound has the best prices we've seen). This year I committed to a full basket so we've been thoroughly enjoying using up our precious stash. We have cups vacuum sealed & frozen for colder weather, many many blueberries smoothies & fresh blueberry jam but the standout was this…

We inherited a lovely little rhubarb patch with our homestead; along with a trout-stocked pond, wild ramps, a tiny chanterelle patch and tons and tons of wild raspberries! While we've definitely got our hands full with the new baby (2.5 weeks) I couldn't let our rhubarb yield go to waste & whipped up this quick crumble with pantry ingredients and a random grapefruit from our fruit bowl. Luckily the grapefruit compliments the fresh rhubarb and nutty brown butter beautifully, resulting in this extra special treat for tired mama & papa and a new recipe for you all. Snacking cakes; an unfussy treat that comes together quickly, with ingredients found in most pantries. They are not reserved birthdays or special occasions, they are meant to be eaten whenever the craving for cake lands, like on a Tuesday afternoon. This version also happens to be pretty healthy thanks to high fibre gluten-free flour and an absence of refined sugars, so it can totally pass for breakfast. The peaches are glorious this time of year and work beautifully in this recipe, but can be exchanged for any seasonal fruit; PrintPeach Snacking Cake This gluten-free, dairy-free peach cake is perfect for…

While I'm currently sunning my pale shoulders in a cafe in Mexico (may or may not be sipping on a grapefruit mimosa as I type this) most of you are still battling the cold in Ontario so I'll continue sending cold weather recipes your way until my return. This spicy sweet potato recipe was a regular in my pre-vacation weekday meal prep line up and will make a comeback in my belly as soon as I'm home. It's easy, satisfying and good for my hormones since sweet potatoes contain compounds that boost progesterone levels. Just one sweet potato also contains…

Gluten-free + vegan holiday cinnamon buns, updated; to go along with my updated life. Holiday cinnamon buns have become a well-loved tradition for me. It's a long (most of the day) recipe that allows me plenty of time to reflect on the past year as I wait for dough to rise and yeast to activate. While there was nothing wrong with the O.G. bun recipe, there have been A LOT of changes happening in my personal life in 2022 and it felt appropriate that the cinnamon bun recipe should get a makeover as well. This year my mom got sick.…
