These Strawberry Coconut Luteal Balls are an easy, no-bake treat that tastes a little like strawberry shortcake. They’re gluten-free, paleo, vegan, and perfect for mixing up your seed cycling protocol (I know sunflower seeds on every salad can get a little boring). Food is this doctor's favourite hormone-balancing medicine. The foods you eat can act as powerful messengers, telling your hormones how to behave. When you choose the right foods you can actually promote healing and vitality, while the wrong foods can be detrimental to your health goals. I love prescribing seed cycling as an adjunct to individualized supplement and lifestyle…

Quick and super easy to make, these healthy delicious fish fritters are a great way to start using up some of those bright summer herbs growing in your garden. In addition to heaps of juicy tomatoes and crisp zucchini our backyard garden is overflowing with fresh summer herbs. Lucky for us, everything tastes better finished with a handful of chopped herbs; we're throwing them on salads, whisking them into omelettes (with backyard-fresh eggs of course) and incorporating them into all of our al fresco dinners. I created this recipe last week while contemplating the fate of our abundant dill plants.…

I wasn't planning on posting this recipe on the blog. Banana muffins are not seasonally appropriate you guys, and only a crazy fool would turn on the oven in this heat. Sometimes, though, you happen upon genius when you're least expecting it. These are the Albert Einsteins of banana muffins and they are totally worth the bump in your hydro bill in the middle of summer. I created this recipe as a pre-workout treat for my husband Kyle but they'd also make a great breakfast replacement or mid afternoon snack. These muffins are full of fibre + healthy fats and…

Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutritional deficiency, affecting more than 30% of the world's population. It is also a common cause of fatigue, brain fog, hair loss and insomnia - which is why it's so important to run frequent lab tests if you experience these symptoms. I've been tracking for almost 5 years now and have alarmingly found that over 85% of my female patients have iron levels that are sub-optimal. While your doctor may have told you that your iron levels are "just fine" I highly highly recommend that you get your hands on that ferritin number to…

Periods shouldn't be miserable, they shouldn't be painful or make you want to lose it on everyone you come into contact with. Your cycle shouldn't cause breakouts, or extreme bloating and your period shouldn't require 40+ tampons & an iron transfusion each month. Even though these symptoms may be common, they're not normal! It is possible to have an easy & dare I even say enjoyable cycle when your hormones are balanced and supported with the right foods, exercise and supplements. Seed cycling is my favourite hormone-balancing food therapy. It's cheap, delicious and so incredibly easy to do. You simply…

I just turned 32 last Thursday. Significant because I'm now old, but also because I celebrated without a phone call or visit from my Grandpa, who passed away recently and shared my birthday - March 21st. Even though we didn't get to see each other all that much I'd hear from him without fail yearly on our birthday. He'd always describe the beautiful weather in his new hometown of Ajijic, Mexico and tell me that I was the best birthday present he ever received. I had the opportunity to visit my grandpa a few times in Mexico before he got sick…

This lovely little Valentines day recipe is the ultimate combination of my favourite things: pink, Paris & coconut whipped cream. I'm slightly fixated on all things Parisian, and I'll soon be channeling my inner Parisian it-girl in bed with a big plate of these healthy crepes & a cafe-au-lait (almond milk, always) while flipping through the latest issue of the Paris Review and listening to Serge Gainsbourg albums with my hunny. Valentines day fell on a weekday this year so we decided to postpone our celebrations to this weekend. My husband and I are currently relaxing in Prince Edward County,…

You may have noticed Alison Roman's "the stew" recipe on instagram this week. Her delicious chickpea-based recipe has taken the internet by storm and is a wonderful addition to your weeknight dinner recipe lineup. This recipe is cheap and easy, and comes together in less than an hour from the following simple ingredients: 2 cans of coconut milk, 2 cans of chickpeas, garlic, onion, greens, stock and turmeric spice. While delicious (it has TWO cans of coconut milk - how can you go wrong here), I tweaked the recipe a few times until I came up with a variation that…

Gut health month is sadly coming to a close (stay tuned for December's healthy gift guides & peppermint treats). We've explored my top gut-healing supplements and the FODMAP diet, learned in ins and outs of pre and probiotics, and even sampled a few of my go-to gut healing recipes. It's been so incredible sharing my views on all things digestion, but I couldn't possibly conclude a month of gut-health focused posts without including my daily gut-focused smoothie. This smoothie recipe is an excellent addition to your digestive health recipe repertoire; it makes a delicious and convenient breakfast, and is a…

Paleo Pumpkin Pie Bar Recipe (Sugar-free / Keto-friendly) Halloween has passed and you're likely now stuck with a bunch of old pumpkins and a lingering sugar hangover. Luckily for you, this keto & paleo pumpkin pie bar is the solution to all of your problems. Made with low-carb, grain-free flours and monk fruit sweetener instead of sugar it's the perfect low-sugar healthy treat to easy you out of your sugar-coma. If you're feeling ambitious you can roast up those old pumpkins to use as your pumpkin puree, but canned pumpkin works just as well in this recipe. I've eaten a slice…
