Snacking cakes; an unfussy treat that comes together quickly, with ingredients found in most pantries. They are not reserved birthdays or special occasions, they are meant to be eaten whenever the craving for cake lands, like on a Tuesday afternoon. This version also happens to be pretty healthy thanks to high fibre gluten-free flour and an absence of refined sugars, so it can totally pass for breakfast. The peaches are glorious this time of year and work beautifully in this recipe, but can be exchanged for any seasonal fruit; PrintPeach Snacking Cake This gluten-free, dairy-free peach cake is perfect for…

These healthy breakfast brownies are a Sunday staple in our house. They come together easily and taste super decadent, but are actually quite healthy! Full of fibre from beans & oats they're basically oatmeal, but sexier (until the beans kick in). The perfect lazy Sunday breakfast in bed (until the beans kick in .. at which point I suggest that you get out of bed). PrintBreakfast Brownies (gluten-free, dairy-free) Oatmeal + beans, in a blender, then bake. Easy peasy and surprisingly delicious.  Ingredients1 can BPA-free black beans1/2 cup pumpkin puree or apple sauce1 tsp baking soda3 eggs1/3 cup maple syrup1/2…

Gluten-free + vegan holiday cinnamon buns, updated; to go along with my updated life. Holiday cinnamon buns have become a well-loved tradition for me. It's a long (most of the day) recipe that allows me plenty of time to reflect on the past year as I wait for dough to rise and yeast to activate. While there was nothing wrong with the O.G. bun recipe, there have been A LOT of changes happening in my personal life in 2022 and it felt appropriate that the cinnamon bun recipe should get a makeover as well. This year my mom got sick.…

You guys have been really excited about this recipe on instagram. I was going to make you all wait until it comes out in the spring issue of Whole Family magazine but this is just the kind of recipe that is perfect for snowy February mornings, so it felt cruel to withhold it any longer. Here they are! My favourite breakfast. These low carb, gluten-free scones are a great option when you’re craving something savoury & comforting in the morning. They get their cheesy flavour from B12-rich nutritional yeast and taste fabulous when paired with some cashew cream cheese and smoked…

Happy New Year, from this doctor's 2021 kitchen. Before we get into my much requested cinnamon bun recipe, I'd like to first thank you guys for your patience with me this year. Many of you have been DM-ing and emailing me asking for new recipes, and unfortunately by the end of 2020 I just didn't have anything left over for writing or recipe-developing. This year has been undoubtedly difficult for everyone, and while I've appreciated the forced reframe, new puppy and time at home I have not loved the amount of time, energy and emotion that this year has cost…

I wasn't planning on posting this recipe on the blog. Banana muffins are not seasonally appropriate you guys, and only a crazy fool would turn on the oven in this heat. Sometimes, though, you happen upon genius when you're least expecting it. These are the Albert Einsteins of banana muffins and they are totally worth the bump in your hydro bill in the middle of summer. I created this recipe as a pre-workout treat for my husband Kyle but they'd also make a great breakfast replacement or mid afternoon snack. These muffins are full of fibre + healthy fats and…

Green Chia Detox Pudding [Replete Summer Cleanse Recipe] Our bodies need a good seasonal cleaning just as much as our homes do! While your body is designed to detox efficiently on it’s own, most of us are not well equipped to deal with the onslaught of chemicals and toxins that we’re exposed to on a daily basis. ‘Toxins’ (aka heavy metals, pesticides, medications, chemicals and food additives) enter your body everyday through the air you breathe, the water you drink & the food you eat. Most of us are completely overburdened with these chemicals from our environment, which is why…

Coconut Cinnamon Cold Brew This morning brew is 100% Bali-inspired. It was simply too dang hot and humid in Bali to sip on steaming cups of coffee, instead, Kyle and I sought out huge cups of icy cold brew. With the weather (finally!) heating up in Ontario we've switched over to drinking this smooth and sweet cold coffee as our morning beverage of choice. I've always been a hot coffee kind of gal but thanks to this new recipe I'm officially a cold-brew convert. Not only is this cold brew absolutely delicious, it's also loaded with health benefits. These are the…
