Salt baths are great for much more than just relaxation. This recipe provides soothing magnesium to relax tense muscles and lavender reduce skin irritation and calm the mind. With my wedding fast approaching I've been ramping up both my workouts and my overall stress levels, spinning 3 - 4 times weekly at 6ix cycle plus intense HIIT sessions at my new favourite - F45 Oakville. In order to keep up with it all I've been incorporating relaxing magnesium baths into my daily beauty routine to soothe sore muscles and calm my overall nervous system. This holiday season has been filled with way more sugar and alcohol than I would normally eat. The holidays are a time to let loose, a time when we discard our normal health 'rules' and totally overindulge. This time of year typically brings temptation in the form of sugar cookies, eggnog and overspending - which can affect everything from your mood to your waistline. While I don't tend to stray far from my usual gluten-free/dairy-free/refined sugar-free diet, I do end up drinking way more alcohol than I normally would. It's just such a lovely time of year to cuddle up with in front of a fireplace with a hot toddy or glass of single malt, but waking up with a…

Homemade DIY Lip Balm is a my favourite holiday gift idea. I've been working on perfecting my basic recipe for years and I finally feel like I've created a true winner. These lip balms are firm to the touch but soften beautifully upon contact with your lips. I've been creating my own homemade lip balms every since I discovered that store-bought lip products actually contain ingredients that dry out the lips, causing you to need to reapply constantly in order to keep your lips soft and smooth. They also typically contain ingredients than can cause irritation and even some that are…

Our lavender bush has grown absolutely wild this summer and I'm not upset about it at all! Lavender is one of my favourite herbs to relieve stress and anxiety since research shows that lavender has calming, soothing, and sedative effects on the nervous system when consumed or inhaled. Lavender's calming properties are due to it's main constituents: linalool, linalyl acetate & terpinen-4-ol. These chemical compounds calm the nervous system by modulating GABA levels in the brain. Since GABA is one of our main inhibitory neurotransmitters this means that lavender balances excitatory / stimulating neurotransmitter firing, which in turn calms the mind and body. Coffee, on the other…
